Sense of humor vs. sense of hypocrisy

What if
this was said by Wanda Sikes at the White House corespondents dinner last weekend regarding the Bush presidency. Her exact quotes from a Wall Street Journal article are intact, "what if" changes are in bold.
"Obama said he hopes Bush fails, so you're saying, 'I hope America fails,' you're, like, 'I dont [sic] care about people losing their homes, their jobs, our soldiers in Iraq.' He just wants the country to fail. To me, that's treason. "He's not saying anything differently than what Osama bin Laden is saying. You know, you might want to look into this, sir, because I think Hussein Obama was the 20th hijacker. But he was just so strung out on Smoking cigarettes he missed his flight." "Obama, I hope the country fails, I hope his lungs fail, how about that? He needs a good waterboarding, that's what he needs." Cheney seemed to think this bit was pretty hilarious, grinning and chuckling and turning to share the "joke" with the person sitting on his right.
You know what the outrage would be from the left.

  1. The hypocrisy is hilarious. The whole WHCA dinner was hilarious- culminating with the cocktail party joke of the night: Obama's "all of you voted for me" line that was supposed to garner laughter, but instead garnered applause and cheering.

As a college graduate with a radio/television degree who spent a good eight years studying journalistic integrity in high school and in college- I'm absolutely embarrassed by what's become of our media. It's become a propaganda wing for an ideological movement. Actively engaging in rooting for a candidate to get elected, and then protecting his every cataclysmic failure.

But it's "their job to make sure this thing goes right", right Chris Matthews?

  3. We need to keep people awake to what is happening and being done to our country via the mainstream media and what is becoming commonplace in our society and the worship as gospel to what Obama syas, does or laughs at. He is the president of all 300 million americans so to laugh at the joke of thought of even one dying of kidney failure is disgusting as the leader of america.

  4. I dislike Obama more than most, but its important to realize that "W" was almost as anti-freedom as he is.

  5. I don't think the moral we should take from this situation is one of this-side vs. that-side. Conservatives vs. liberals, leftists vs. rightists - It's all too political.

Furthermore, I think the term "left-winger" should be stricken from our collective vernacular. Liberal Democrats are left. But so are Conservative Republicans. You've stated yourself that there is no right anymore; it's just varying degrees of leftness.

Given that the only right party could be the libertarian or (in the extreme) anarchist parties, it's rather meaningless to say "left this, right this" when speaking of contemporary party platforms.

You should absolutely have your ideas, and they theirs. Cut the gratuitous labels, though, and focus more on the absurdity of the circumstance - namely that our country is being divided in such a way.

  6. I guess I will be more careful to say "liberal democrat left" and "conservative republican left". Point taken, but I am not sure I have to power to change how most people communicate when discussing the general political situational split, which of course, brings us back full circle.
